Massachusetts has a similar problem to California. The rising sea level may impact them in similar ways, but opposed to San Francisco being threatened, Massachusetts capital city Boston, and Cape Cod would be highly affected by the rise in sea level.
Coincidentally, Massachusetts is also planning desalination as a solution. The Massachusetts solution is to "Desalt sea water through desalination." People are surprised when they hear Massachusetts has these sea level rising problems, (look on previous page) because they assume it is a wet state that should have no problems.
It may not be a desert state, but Massachusetts does have problems with water supply. Storm water ends up getting drained out to sea, and development is harming already stressed watersheds.
Water shortages have been especially harmful in southeastern Massachusetts. Cities all around Massachusetts are bracing for dwindling water supplies in coming decades, but like California, Massachusetts has a plan. They also plan to use desalination to solve the water-shortage problem.
